McLaren Racing, Formula One (F1), unveiled a crypto-inspired design for its racing cars at an Singapore event on Tuesday ahead of next week’s Grand Prix in the city.
This move is part of an agreement with OKX, a crypto exchange. McLaren’s MCL36 F1 McLaren cars will carry the livery at the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix, and 2022 Japanese Grand Prix. These races are returning to Asia for the first-time since 2019.
McLaren partners with OKX
McLaren’s Fluro Mama colorway is featured in the livery, with neon pink embellishments. The engine illustrations are dynamic and cyberpunk-inspired. McLaren explained to CoinDesk, that the design represented new technologies emerging from the region such as cryptocurrencies or the wider Web3 sector.
Haider Rafique, OKX Chief Marketing Officer, stated that it was an incredible experience for McLaren and OKX to co-design the Asia livery. “This new livery signifies the arrival of bold, new technology. We created the cyberpunk design to celebrate Web3’s influence on popular culture.
OKX stated that it would help McLaren revolutionize the team’s digital collectibles and metaverse strategy. McLaren Racing stated in 2021 that it would build a platform for non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the Tezos Blockchain. McLaren’s automotive unit stated earlier this year that it would create and mint NFT tokens (NFTs) for its luxury supercars, in partnership with the metaverse infrastructure platform InfiniteWorld.
