John Riccitiello is the CEO of Unity, a leading 3D engine provider. He predicts that the internet will be part of the metaverse within the next few years. According to Riccitiello, most websites will soon be metaverse destinations. This prediction will likely happen by 2030. Riccitiello said that legacy sites will be available at the same time.

Many companies are interested in how the future metaverse might impact our lives. Unity, a company that specializes in 3D real-time solutions, predicts that the majority of the internet will be metaverse-based within 2030. John Riccitiello is the CEO of Unity. He stated that 2D websites would mutate into metaverse destinations, and that these will be interconnected. The remarks were made by the CEO during a keynote at last week’s AWE, an event in augmented reality.

According to the prediction, there will be three types of web destinations. First, sites that will be fully metaverse-integrated, identified as “places you could live and inhabit.” The second kind will blend real-world locations with extended capabilities, and another class of sites will be just “a little bit of a layer atop today’s world,” augmenting it.

These metaverse experiences can be fully enjoyed with the right hardware, but they will also need to adapt to less-capable hardware such as mobile phones and PCs.

Realtime 3D Experiences in 3D and the Metaverse
Unity’s CEO also spoke out about the importance of real-time characteristics in metaverse destinations. This means that every interaction with these worlds can be experienced as it happens.

Real-time engine providers are here to help designers create and enhance these metaverse experiences. Riccitiello said in an interview that Unity’s products are responsible for more than half of all 3D real-time experiences on the market. Recent acquisitions of the company, including Ziva Dynamics and Weta Digital , aim to further improve the technology of Unity’s products.

Unity isn’t the only real-time engines company that is interested in the metaverse. Unreal Engine 5, a direct competitor developed by Epic Games is also a contender with the goal of creating high-quality worlds for metaverse applications and interactivity.
