Mark Zuckerberg (Math (Facebook CEO)) announced via a blog post that Instagram and Facebook will soon have Non-Fungible Tokens features.
These features will allow collectors and creators to display the NFTs they choose on their profiles and accounts. This feature will be available to both Instagram and Facebook users.
According to the report, engineers from Meta will be testing the NFT feature internally. This will take place this week.
Meta also plans to use its Spark AR studio tools for augmented reality support on Instagram stories. Although the company confirmed the news, they have yet to disclose the official rollout date.
Meta and NFT – How it all began
In March 2022 Meta’s CEO teased the feature, stating that they were exploring the possibility to add support for digital collectibles. The CEO mentioned that NFT minting support could be added to Facebook in the future.
The Meta NFT feature could introduce more than 3Billion monthly users to digital collectibles with the help of blockchain technology. The social media giant also released a preview of the future integrations, which includes augmented reality on Instagram Stories.
Reliable sources have also confirmed that Instagram will support NFTs powered by Solana and Ethereum as well as Flow and Polygon. Twitter, a Facebook rival, has also recently announced NFT profile photo integration for its Blue service to paid subscribers.
