eBay, an online marketplace that is well-known for secondary sales, announced Monday it would sell non-fungible tokens through a partnership agreement with OneOf.
OneOf is an NFT platform that specializes in selling digital assets related to music, sports, and lifestyle.
eBay’s NFT collection will include digital collectibles from popular athletes like Wayne Gretzky (a Canadian ice hockey player). There will be four levels of NFTs for each athlete — green, gold and platinum — with the green tier starting at $10.
In 2022, the firm plans to release additional NFT collections featuring high-profile athletes.
Although eBay has supported NFTs officially since May 2021, this NFT launch seems to be the first time that the company has released NFTs.
“Through our partnership, eBay makes coveted NFTs easier to access for a new generation,” Dawn Block, eBay Vice President of Collectibles, Electronics and Home, said in a statement. This is a testament to our ongoing commitment to deliver high-value, high-passion items to the eBay seller and buyer community.”
OneOf uses the Tezos Blockchain, which uses a proof of stake consensus system.
