Kraken, a crypto exchange, has hired Blair Halliday, Gemini’s former UK head, to manage its UK operations. This is a crucial market for the exchange.
According to a press release, Halliday will be focusing on the expansion of the exchange’s reach within the region. Halliday was previously employed by JPMorgan, Intercontinental Exchange, Circle and Intercontinental Exchange in compliance roles. He spent 14 years with NatWest before he was promoted to these roles.
Curtis Ting was the Kraken UK Operations Manager. He will now be responsible for overseeing several regions.
Kraken intends to hire more people in its legal, compliance, and operations departments. Kraken also plans to provide a marketplace for trading NFTs, something that has been difficult for other exchanges to do when it comes to attracting market shares.
This is just weeks after Kraken CEO Jesse Powell was removed and was succeeded by David Ripley, former COO.
One of Kraken’s most important markets in terms of trading volume is the UK. The collapse of the pound has led to a rise in trading against the pound on more crypto exchanges.
Kraken employs 3,300 people, 350 of whom are based in the UK. Kraken boasts over 10 million traders and institutions.
