OpenSea has just sold Azuki #9605 for 420.7ETH ($1.4 Million). This is the highest-ever sale price for the Azuki NFT Collection.
Azuki #9605, which was billed as the second most rare member of the Azuki NFT Collection, was sold on Wednesday for a record 420.7ETH (1.4 million USD) on OpenSea’s NFT marketplace OpenSea.
OpenSea’s buyer is “jdizzles”, while the seller is “trevault”. RedBeanDAO members often buy Azuki NFTs. claimed the sale via the Twitter handle @trebooomin.
Trebooomin identified “Jason” as the buyer. He is also known on Twitter as Bitcoin4Freedom. The Block attempted to reach Jason for comment but did not hear back by press time.
Anime avatars
The Azuki NFT Collection includes 10,000 unique anime avatars. It gives its owners access to The Garden. This is “a corner on the internet where art and community fuse to create magic.”
The collection was launched by Chiru Labs in January. is a Los Angeles-based startup led by four pseudonymous founders: ZAGABOND and 2pm.flow. Location tba, HoshiBoy, and location tba. They claim to have worked at Google, Facebook and Y Combinator, as well as in DeFi.
Following pioneers like Bored Ape Yacht Club, Azuki quickly rose to be one of the most loved NFT collections.
Thomas Bialek from The Block Research, a NFT analyst, says that Azuki’s popularity is due to several factors. Azuki was the first anime-themed project to become mainstream, the team’s experience in big tech and DeFi, and innovative initiatives in the project’s roadmap such as physical good drops in perpetuity, and DAO exploration using its own BEAN token.
According to The Block Research, Azuki NFTs have sold more than $500 million on OpenSea to date. The top 10 highest-sellers range from $353,000 to $1.4 million.
Azuki’s trading volumes for the last month are greater than that of CryptoPunks, a legacy NFT collection. This was purchased by Yuga Labs, BAYC creator. Azuki’s last month sales volume was $85 million, compared to CryptoPunks $76 million. According to The Block Research, the most popular NFT collections, BAYC (BAYC) and Mutant Ape Yacht Club(BAYC) had sales volumes of $220 million each and $150 million respectively in the past month.
